This workshop, lead by Linda Connor and intended for intermediate and advanced photographers, guides participants in recognizing the positioning and context of their work, valuing its personal meaning as well as its “genealogy” in the historical continuum of artistic expression. The workshop will focus on work currently in progress through portfolio review, project examination, and discussion. Participants will come away with inspiration from other pertinent photographers and artists, as well as greater understanding and confidence in their own direction.
Limited to 12 participants

PhotoAlliance, in collaboration with the Smith Andersen North Gallery, is proud to announce an open call for Bay Area Currents, a  competition juried by distinguished professionals celebrating the diversity and breadth of photographic practices stemming from the Bay Area and surrounding counties.

JURORS:

Stefan Kirkeby, Owner, Smith Andersen North Gallery and co-owner of Casemore Kirkeby Gallery, San Francisco, California

Việt Lê, Assistant Professor at California College of the Arts, San Francisco, California

Meg Shiffler, Director, San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries

THEME:

There is no single theme for this call, instead we are looking to see what you have been up to of late- enter whatever work you would like to share as a broad range of interpretations through photography is invited including documentary, expressive, or experimental. Submissions may be depicted in any style and utilize any process or camera type.

As part of the PhotoAlliance exhibition program, Bay Area Currents was established to provide an opportunity for local artists working with photography to exhibit in the Bay Area and to discover and connect with other artists in the community. We approach the word “local” loosely, primarily as a means to indicate PhotoAlliance’s interest in connecting artists who have ties to the Bay Area with one another. We encourage all to attend the opening reception on September 08, 2018.
