Photo Alliance is pleased to announce an OPEN CALL for a portfolio review that will be held over the weekend of March 13-15, 2009 in San Francisco. Thank you all for a great response. This three-day event will bring together top photography editors, publishers, curators, gallerists, and educators representing small, mid-sized, and major venues from around the U.S. to meet with engaged photographers to review their portfolios and encourage their careers. The weekend’s activities will also include a FRIDAY EVENING LECTURE March 13th, open to the General Public. To guarantee a high quality experience, the event will be pre-juried, with a limit of 50. The DEADLINE to submit your portfolio for consideration is February 13th, 2009. Then, during the weekend of March 13-15, 2009, the selected 50 photographers will each have ten twenty minute sessions with reviewers over the course of two days, and ample opportunity for further networking. Reviewers are committed professionals representing a cross section of our community including book and magazine publishers, packagers and editors, museum, non-profit and commercial gallery directors, curators and leading educators and photographers. PRIZES AND OPPORTUNITIES: The Orion Award: For the best portfolio that fits the mission of Orion magazine which is to deepen an understanding of our relationships with the natural world: a portfolio in an upcoming issue of Orion! The Ike Royer Memorial Award & Scholarships from Freestyle Photographic that recognizes the best work utilizing traditional gelatin silver materials. Freestyle has been an industry leader in keeping these materials available and affordable. The Blue Earth Prize For "Best Project Photography" This new award provides recognition for photographic work best representing the Blue Earth mission: To raise awareness about endangered cultures, threatened environments and social concerns through photography. The photo-eye Photographer's Showcase Award for "Best Art Photography Portfolio." A FULL COLOR ILLUSTRATED CATALOG will be produced as part of the review and is included as part of the tuition fee. Each participant will have two pages for images and contact information. Registration is a TWO-STEP process. 1- An initial review of portfolios submitted by CD with $40.00 entry fee. 2- Fifty portfolios will be selected from these submissions for the weekend review. An additional $495.00 payment is then required for final participation if selected.
