Field Workshop Series
Mono Lake: Photography and the Environment Workshop with Robert Dawson
Our workshop will explore the spectacular beauty of the eastern Sierra desert lake called Mono. Our base camp will be in the small town of Lee Vining. It is located on Highway 395 near the shore of Mono Lake and at the western edge of the Great Basin. It will serve as a convenient departure site for visits to the South Shore Tufa Grove, Panum volcanic cinder cone, Lee Vining Canyon, Tuolumne Meadows and many other beautiful features of the Eastern Sierra.

Mono Lake is a unique gem of Western American landscape. Exotic but fragile, it is also the site of one of the greatest environmental success stories of recent times. We will explore the results of that success throughout the workshop. The rich mix of history and the sheer beauty of the environment will be the focus of our visit. The workshop promises to be a memorable experience in one of the most beautiful desert landscapes in the West. Evenings will be spent discussing photography, looking at work, and sharing meals. Saturday and Sunday night dinners are included with the cost of the workshop. Desert fans and photographers of all levels are encouraged to take this workshop.

Memorial Day weekend is one of the best times to visit this area because of the clear skies, warm days, and cool nights. We will stay in motels in Lee Vining. Camping is available nearby. The town has several restaurants, coffee shops and grocery stores. Further details of the workshop will be sent upon registration.
