Addressing the creative ways we describe Our World from the document to the expressive image. Photo Alliance is pleased to announce an OPEN CALL for a portfolio review that will be held over the weekend of March 10-11, 2007. This event is being co-sponsored by Orion Magazine and DoubleTake Magazine. Participant prizes will include the Photo Alliance Emerging Photography Award and the Our World Publication Award. This two-day event will bring together top photography editors, publishers, curators, gallerists, and educators representing small, mid-sized, and major venues from around the U.S. to meet with engaged photographers to review their portfolios and encourage their careers. To guarantee a high quality experience, the event will be pre-juried from slides. DEADLINE EXTENDED work must be received by February 20th, 2007. Then, during the weekend of March 10-11, 2007, the selected 50 photographers will each have ten twenty minute sessions with reviewers over the course of two days, and ample opportunity for further networking. The weekend’s activities will also include a Friday evening lecture, March 9th, open to the general public that will focus on environmentally conscious photography. Reviewers are committed professionals representing a cross section of our community including book and magazine publishers, packagers and editors, museum, non-profit and commercial gallery directors and curators and leading educators and photographers. All work should have been completed in the past three years. “ Addressing the creative ways we describe our World, from the document to the expressive image.” -Please interpret this theme broadly. • Registration: Registration is a TWO-STEP process. 1- An initial review of portfolios submitted in electronic or slide page format with $35.00 non-refundable entry fee. 2- Fifty portfolios will be selected from these submissions for the weekend review. An additional $395.00 payment is required for final participation. • Calendar: Feb. 20th - Entry due March 10/11- Portfolio Review in San Francisco • Entry: Slides and or JPEG images on CD only for application process. Must be received by Februaru 20th, 2007. Early submissions encouraged. See entry checklist on Entry Form. Slides/CD’s will be returned only if a self-addressed stamped envelope with appropriate postage is submitted with entry. • Entry Fee and Procedure: A non-refundable entry fee of $35 for each 20 images. The fee must be submitted with the completed registration form and one #10 self-addressed stamped envelope. • Slide Submission Requirements: 35mm slides with either paper or plastic mounts in one clear plastic slide sheet. Glass slides can not be accepted. All slides must be labeled with: First and Last Name Title and date of work Medium of work Dimensions of work Indicate top of image • Digital Submission Requirements: Files should be on a CD in JPEG format. Image size should be no larger than 2Mb or: Horizontal - 8 inches Vertical - 8 inches Resolution 150 pixels/inch. Files named as follows: Lastname_Firstname_imagenumber.jpg Please submit an accompanying sheet with a list of name, title, date, medium, and dimension of each piece. • Selection: A panel of jurors will be pre-screening all of the entries. 50 photographers will be selected for the weekend portfolio review. An additional fee of $395.00 is then be required.
