2012 Workshop Series
Developing Your Photographic Project with Lewis Watts
THE INSTRUCTOR
Lewis Watts, photographer, curator and visual archivist will lead this workshop on developing a photographic project. Much of Watt’s research is an examination of the cultural landscape in rural and urban African American communities. Using this background Watts will employ his sensibilities, (through discussion, critique and reflection) to the participants work, seeking to facilitate work that engages communities through individual vision. This workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced photographers wanting develop their ways of thinking about and making of images. Photographers wishing to bring their work to the next level, where creative intention and selective editing leads to a manageable and clearly defined body of images. Through collective and individual critiques, the workshop will investigate what makes a well-formed image and how to edit photographs to form coherent groups. The workshop will explore notions of narrative, aesthetics, personal vision, archiving and post production. THE LOCATION The Launch for Hire is a privately owned historic building that stands atop tidal Tomales Bay in Inverness, California. Its location is removed from the city yet easily accessible. We will finish off the day with a BBQ on the beach. This gives a wonderful opportunity to photograph in a spectacular setting.
