HELP KEEP PHOTOALLIANCE ALIVE!
A Letter from our PhotoAlliance Leadership
Dear Friends of PhotoAlliance,
As the year comes to a close, PhotoAlliance is grateful for another season of creativity, community, and connection in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are writing to share our excitement and hope for the future!
In our 23 years of operation, PhotoAlliance has built a space for photographic artists to connect, grow, and thrive. We’ve presented lectures and exhibitions across the Bay Area, brought world-class photographers into conversation with our community, and launched the careers of countless emerging artists through our beloved Portfolio Review.
In 2025–2026, we are focusing our energy on strengthening the core of our organization: supporting artists, presenting accessible public programs, building partnerships, and cultivating a space for new voices to thrive.
This year, we have continued our lecture series at Bayfront Theater in Fort Mason. You can expect three lectures this Spring, each featuring emerging and established photographers whose work reflects the breadth and vibrancy of contemporary photography. We’re also delighted to bring back an old favorite: our Slide Slam! This emceed event will be hosted at Pretty Gritty (formerly Rayko). The format will be a juried call for entry, with live short-form presentations, and paired with an in-person exhibition at the venue. This is penciled in for February, and we can’t wait! March will bring another stunning workshop opportunity for long-term photo projects with Linda, hosted at The Image Flow in Marin. Only two spots remain, so if this one is on your wishlist, don’t wait! Our Spring season will conclude with our Community Benefit Dinner, held in the first week of June. Mark your calendars, because we’ve got big things planned.
There’s more: our career-changing Portfolio Review will return in 2026! Dates are TBD, but we’ve secured a venue through Harvey Milk Photo Center. This cornerstone program has been a launching platform for many artist's careers, and we wholeheartedly know how important it is to bring it back. This will be our first hosted portfolio review since 2022, having been postponed due to increased operating costs and the related loss of our former lecture and review venue at SFAI. Once our Spring season is fully funded, any remaining donated funds will go toward this venture.
To sustain our momentum and these programming initiatives, PhotoAlliance has set a $25,000 fundraising goal.
Every dollar you donate goes directly to:
Continuing our renowned lecture series, featuring emerging and established artists
Awarding artists honorariums for sharing their time and expertise
Supporting free lecture admission for students — always!
Sustaining our operations: staff, storage, venue, and communication tools that keep you informed and our program running well
Providing invaluable, accessible ongoing programs for students and early-career photographers
Your gift, whether a one-time donation or recurring monthly contribution, ensures we can continue to nurture artists, foster dialogue, and keep our programs accessible to students and the broader public. Your involvement through attendance, volunteerism, conversation, and generosity continues to affirm the vital role photography plays in our culture, and helps to shape the future of our organization.
