UPCOMING WORKSHOP

2024 BOOK CONCEPTION & DESIGN: LINDA CONNOR & SANGYON JOO

This workshop is intended for photographers who have a fairly complete project they are seriously considering turning into some form of book, ranging from an artists’ book or on-demand publication to a mainstream trade book.

Presentations by Linda Connor and Sangyon Joo will share examples and practical approaches for how to translate a portfolio of work into book form. Then, in a supportive and positive environment, detailed discussion of each participant’s project by the group will include feedback about next steps in how to proceed on a book project that will best serve the specific creative content and intended message of the work.

2023 POLISHED PORTFOLIO PRESENTATION
WITH SARAH CHRISTIANSON

So you’ve made the work, now what? How do you share your work in a way that reflects the care and intent you put into making it? What are the other elements—from an artist statement to a website or printed “leave behind”—that go into professionally sharing a portfolio digitally or in-person in a way that presents your work to its best advantage?

This practical workshop is designed to help you effectively package and share a photographic project for many contexts ranging from preparing for a portfolio review to submitting your work to calls for entry to sharing your work online through a website or social media. Working in an individualized way through examples and feedback, this workshop will help you clarify your goals and give you many tangible tools to help you achieve your objectives!

2017 ZZYZX DESERT WORKSHOP
WITH ROBERT DAWSON

In over thirty years of teaching photography workshops the most enjoyable place for me has been the Desert Studies Center at Zzyzx, CA. During the summer it is one of the driest and hottest places on earth. However, during the spring it is a delightful true desert oasis. The radio evangelist/con artist Curtis Springer gave the made-up name Zzyzx to the area that he illegally obtained in 1944, claiming it to be the last word in the English language. But the real interest in Zzyzx is not its colorful beginning but its unique environment. We will visit many outstanding sites including the Mojave National Preserve, the Granite Mountains, the Kelso Dunes and the World Famous Bun Boy (home of the World’s Tallest Thermometer). A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
